03 Feb 2009 - Good internet ideas... using twitter to travel?
How's this for an idea - spend 30 days of your own time, raising money for charity..

Throw in the fact that you could spend those 30 days traveling..

Then throw in the fact you will meet lots of new people..

Finally, throw in the fact you are completely at the mercy of random strangers on the internet...

It's an interesting idea..

Paul Smith is his name.  He's using the TWITTER service to attempt to raise money for charity, by traveling as far as possible in 30 days using nothing but TWITTER to get from a to b.

(twitter allows you to send 'status updates' or 'instant messages' out into the ether, and other people can choose to 'follow' your updates online or on their mobile)

How?  Easy, by getting the attention of people like me, he is hoping to get as many 'followers' as possible, and thus inspire them to firstly DONATE to the cause, and secondly follow him from March 1 to check and see if they can help him get as far away from home as possible.

He's starting in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK, and according to his website, if he's to travel literally to the place on earth furthest from his home, he'll end up on a small island off New Zealand.

I admire this sort of idea, and wish him all the best - should he end up in Sydney, I'll offer him a lift somewhere!

Thanks for the support Trevor! Hopefully I'll make it into your hemisphere, if not a little further :)
